Alison fischman, MA, CD(DONA)

Certified Birth Doula, Placenta Encapsulation Specialist, Student Midwife

Doula in Vermont

I have a passion for people, all people, and the intimacy that exists between people on all levels. I am a social justice advocate and have committed myself and my life's work to empowerment; lifting up the voices in each of us, and letting tradition, culture, and instinct guide us. I love listening to stories, and even more so, I love being part of the creation of stories. The story of pregnancy and birth is different for each parent and each baby. What a beautiful expression of how we are all unique!

I believe in following the parent's lead, providing space for them listen to their body, and allowing them to experience the fullness and intensity of birth. I believe partners have a key role in pregnancy and the birth process, and I seek to shine a light on the inner support system that partners possess.

I am a Certified Doula through DONA International and was trained by long-time doula, Carol Shattuck-Rice, of Open Heart Doula Training. I am also currently enrolled in an accredited Midwifery school, Birthwise, and I am excited about providing doula services in Vermont as I learn more deeply about the birthing process.

Alison will always be a bright light in our birth story. Her ability to provide accurate information without judgement helped us set a strong intention for our birth while allowing us to consider the many other possibilities. I firmly believe her support allowed me to labor at home as long as possible and empowered me to follow through with the natural birth I had envisioned. She encouraged my partner’s support throughout the process as well. Working with Alison shifted my mindset to embrace the intensity of labor and allowed me to be truly present at the birth of my daughter. I will always be thankful to have had Alison as our doula.
